I'm not a reader but was told about this book from a good friend. I find this adapted version somewhat lacking when it assigning the level of difficulty of books targeted for early readers. I use this now for some of my students in American Literature class, instead of Great Gatsby. It is a pretty bad one because:1. You don't have to be a vegetarian to eat vegetarian food, just like you don't have to be Thai to eat Thai food, and you don't have to be Mexican to eat Mexican food. The story takes place in a time that my ancestors made the decision to come to America. Librarians of the world, rejoice. The art is ok but Levins’ style isn’t that different from a dozen other artists drawing at this time.
